We didn’t get into business because we like the suits. We didn’t accept the mantle of leadership because we like bossing people around. We want to work with peers who like what we like—tuning up the way things work for high performance, and then driving that car down the raceway (perhaps repeatedly), so we can see the fruits of our efforts. We want to build a better machine. We want a workforce who’s not there for patronage and to ‘have a job’ but one that thinks like we do: “How can I make this rock?” And we’re not satisfied with sitting in one place. We want, ultimately, to leave our name on great accomplishments and take on more interesting ones. Do that, and we might just stay in until we drop. We’re adventurers. Business is the venue for our exploits.
